Pastor Bill Hering was installed at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on October 29, 2006.

Biography

Pastor Bill Hering is the son of the late Dan and Margie Hering. He grew up on the family dairy farm along with his sister Julie and brother Dave. In his youth they would care for the animals and help with the farm work. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Cornelius where he was baptized and confirmed. He is a graduate of Hillsboro High School (1982), Oregon State University (1987) with a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering Technology, and Concordia Theological Seminary (1991).

In High School he was involved in the FFA and band. At Oregon State he was a member of Farm House Fraternity and the OSU Marching band. He also enjoyed the college ministry at Zion Lutheran Church in Corvallis. While at the Seminary he played basketball for the Kingsmen, sang in the chapel choir, and for one year sang with the Schola Cantorum. (a mixed voice choir) He did his field work at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian, Indiana and served his vicarage at Peace Lutheran Church in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

From the Seminary the Lord called Pastor Hering to be an Associate Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church and School in Norfolk, Nebraska. There his primary responsibility was ministering to the youth of the congregation and their families. Pastor Hering served on the Nebraska District Youth Commission. The Lord was good to Pastor Hering and taught him many things during these years in Norfolk. After eight years the Lord called him to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sherwood, Oregon, as an associate Pastor. There he continued his work with youth and other areas of the ministry. He was blessed to see the beginning of their school and the wonderful ministries that developed in a changing community. He served at St. Paul for seven years.

On July 16, 2005, Pastor Bill Hering and Leslie (Dove) were married. Leslie grew up in Lake Oswego. She served with YWAM (Youth with a Mission) in Germany, worked for Grace Community Church, and completed her B.S. degree in Family Studies at Western Baptist College in June 2005.

Pastor Hering enjoys music: trumpet, guitar, and singing. He also enjoys the outdoors and sports. Both he and Leslie have a passion for people, for missions, and for serving the Lord as He leads. We thank the Lord for His calling and for bringing us to Pilgrim Lutheran Church. We wish to thank the congregation and the staff for their warm welcome and their prayers during the call process. May the Lord richly bless this congregation as together we serve in His name, grow in our faith, and continue His mission in this place.
