Pilgrim Pillars

One Mission, Three Ministries

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1

At the November 17, 2007 Pilgrim Pillars lunch Pastor Bill made a slide show presentation of his trip to Turkey. He and wife Leslie visited historical Christian sites around Istanbul (Constantinople) and a trip to Ephesus. Some Christian churches (e.g.Hygia Sophia above) were converted to mosques after the rise of muslim religion and Ottoman empire. The magnificent Hagia Sophia was originally built by Justinian and used as a Christian church for 916 years. It then became a mosque for 481 years and Ataturk declared it a museum in 1935.

Every member of Pilgrim Lutheran congregation automatically becomes a Pilgrim Pillar when reaching the age of 55. It is a loose-knit organization, encouraging fellowship, companionship and general Christian association with each other.

One of our activities is a Bible Study open to any and all Pillars, held at 10 A.M. every MONDAY morning, generally following the school year, ie, meeting from September through May or early June. In this informal gathering, we are presently studying the Minor Prophets following which the plan is to begin with a study of Genesis.

Another activity of the Pillars is a monthly luncheon held every second TUESDAY of the month at 11:30 A.M. at Tom's Pancake House at 12925 S.W. Canyon Road. An attempt is made to have a special speaker or presentation at each of these luncheons. This is a great opportunity to get acquainted, enjoy a fun conversation, an excellent lunch and a short informative program at times with a guest speaker. Here again, these luncheons are held September through May.

The Pillars group occasionally organizes luncheons within the congregation for the senior population. As an example, a Thanksgiving Veterans luncheon was organized sometime in the past to which the seniors of our sister congregation at Bethlehem/Aloha were invited.
